Even though secure instant messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp are popular, text messages are still widely used.
You may be concerned that you are missing text messages from others if you are unable to send them on an Android device. Even worse, you might be concerned that your device has been hacked, but there’s a very slim chance that’s what happened.
We’ll go over the steps you need to take to fix the issue and resume communication with friends, family, and coworkers.
Why Is My Android Unable to Send Text Messages?
Your device, the messaging app, and a cellular network are necessary for texting. The three components may each fail separately for a variety of reasons, including:
- Inadequate airtime.
- Unsuitable settings.
The cellular network might not be able to send or receive messages.
- Heavy traffic on the network.
- The number you’re calling could be unreachable or invalid.
- The phone might be broken.
- The device has Flight Mode turned on.
- Incorrectly inserting the SIM card.
- The messaging app could have errors or malfunctions.
- Invalid settings for the message center (SMSC).

What to Do if Android Doesn’t Let You Send Text Messages
You should be able to start texting again from an Android phone after following these troubleshooting steps.
- Verify that your phone plan includes enough airtime for text messaging. It’s possible that you’re attempting to send a lengthy message that would require more airtime to send.
- Check the reception on your device because it may be interfering with calls and message delivery. If you’re at home, locate a location that has better reception, or purchase a booster to enhance reception.
- Monitor the status reports for network issues from your cellular provider.
- Verify the validity and accuracy of the phone number you are using to send the messages. The message may be being sent to an invalid number because you typed a few incorrect digits or the incorrect code.
- Verify that SMS, MMS, and RCS messaging are supported by your service provider.
- Check to make sure Messages is your default text messaging app.
- Make sure your SIM card is correctly inserted into the port. If it is, check the status or notification bar of your device to see if the mobile network is operational. Reinsert the SIM card if you receive the “No SIM card” message and try again. If your phone still is unable to recognise the SIM card, try it on another phone or get in touch with your network provider.
- If the Messages app is experiencing bugs or loops that won’t end, restart your phone to refresh it and apply any necessary operating system updates.
- Switch Airplane Mode off. When Airplane Mode is activated, all wireless communication is shut off, making it impossible to place or receive calls or even send and receive text messages. Navigate to Settings > Connections > Flight Mode and turn Off Airplane Mode.
- Restart the Messages app on your device after quitting it if memory management issues are keeping you from being able to send text messages from it.
- Update Android to address any bugs or Messages app-related problems, and then try texting once more. You can update the operating system by going to Settings > Software Update and installing any available updates, or by going to Settings > System > Advanced > System Update, depending on the model of your Android device.
- Update the messaging programme to fix any bugs or mysterious problems that prevent you from sending text messages.
1. Examine Blocked Numbers
It’s possible that a person’s number has been blocked if you can’t text them.
- To determine whether a number or contact has been blocked, open Contacts, tap on the person’s name, and look for the Block icon (a circle with a diagonal line) next to the name or number.
- To resume texting the person, select Unblock from the three dots menu in the top right corner of your screen.
The other person may have blocked you as well, in which case you may be able to send but they won’t receive your message. Additionally, it’s possible that someone isn’t responding to you, giving you the impression that your messages aren’t getting through.
- You can activate Read Receipts to see if your text messages have been read. Unread Messages Toggle the Delivery Reports switch to enable Read Receipts by tapping the three dots, going to Settings > More Settings > Text Messages, and then tapping Settings again.
2. Delete All Data and Cache from Your Text Message App
The Messages app’s bugs can be refreshed and eliminated by clearing the cache.
- Tap Messages in Settings > Apps to clear the cache (or your Messaging app).
- Tap Storage.

- Select Clear data, and then select OK to confirm the deletion of the app’s data.
Send the text messages once more after restarting your device.
3. Restore default settings for SMS
It’s possible that the default SMS settings changed if you switched SIM cards before the issue arose. Sending text messages presents a challenge because each service provider has different/unique preferences that enable them to send messages correctly.
- Open the Messages app on your phone and tap Settings to return SMS settings to their default state.
- Restart your device, reset all of the settings to their default values, and try sending a text message once more.
4. Examine SMSC
The Access Point Names (APN) that you require for mobile internet connections are similar to the SMSC or Message Center Number. You can send texts using SMSC, which is specific to each network operator.
- Open the Messages app on your device, and then tap the three dots to reveal the Settings. This will allow you to check the SMSC on your device.
- Select More Settings.
- Select Text Messages next.
