Qa Ingrid Geridaeus Joanna Geary was the former Editor-in-Chief of Onezero, a Medium website dedicated to knowledge and science. There, at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism, she could participate as a visiting scholar. From 2016 to 2017, Geary served as Head of News Product at Twitter, where he led the team responsible for developing Twitter’s news product and connections.

Geary has been a journalist for almost a decade. As a correspondent for The Guardian from 2006 to 2011, she wrote about a variety of subjects, from journalism and business to technology. In addition to her work as a reporter for The Guardian, she also served as the US enterprise editor from 2011 to 2013. Geary left The Guardian in 2016 to become the Head of Social and Audience at The Times, a position she held from 2013 to 2016.

In February of 2018, Geary announced on Medium that she would be departing to “pursue fresh possibilities.” The Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California is hosting her as a visiting scholar this semester.

British-born Joanna Geary grew up in the UK. She attended Bristol University and earned her bachelor’s degree in zoology in 2004.

Career

Upon graduating from college in 2006, Joanna Geary started her career as a writer at The Guardian. As a correspondent for The Guardian from 2006 to 2011, she wrote about a variety of subjects, from journalism and business to technology. She was the US enterprise editor for The Guardian from 2011 to 2013.

Geary left The Guardian in 2016 to become the Head of Social and Audience at The Times, a position she held from 2013 to 2016.

Geary is now the Head of News Product at Twitter. In this role, she led the team that developed Twitter’s network and content offering. Leaving Twitter in 2017, she is now the Chief Editor of the Medium publication OneZero.

In February of 2018, Geary announced on Medium that she would be departing to “pursue fresh possibilities.”

Geary has been invited to teach a class at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism.
